Maternity Care
The Birthing Center's approach to childbirth is based on your individual needs and those of your family. During your pregnancy, we encourage you and your physician to develop a birth plan. Whether you choose a natural birth or anesthesia, breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, the nurses are here to support your choice. The Birthing Center is also equipped with a surgical suite in cases when Cesarean sections are necessary.
Birthing suites
To aid in your comfort and privacy, we offer individual birthing suites, where you can stay through your labor, birth and recovery. Trained nurses are by your side to care for you and baby with one-on-one treatment and instruction in a home-like setting. We allow babies to room with their mothers, providing the space and time for family-baby bonding. We also allow fathers to stay overnight in the suites, with comfortable recliners for them to sleep on.
Infant Security
Your safety is very important to us. The unit is locked for the safety of everyone on the unit. Please ensure that your visitors know your correct name when they come to visit because they are required to provide the correct information to gain access to the floor. At the entrance to the unit, there is an intercom button. When you press it, the bell alerts staff of your presence; you may experience a slight delay while we are assisting our patients in labor but a member of the staff will be with you as quickly as possible.
Follow-up care
We welcome every new baby into the world in a nurturing environment and offer mothers prenatal care, postnatal assistance and everything in between. When you leave the hospital and take your baby home, we continue to provide support and education if and when you need it.
39 Weeks Initiative
North Okaloosa Medical Center has been recognized by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District XII (Florida) and the March of Dimes for reducing the number of elective deliveries performed before 39 weeks of pregnancy. The March of Dimes says this will give more babies a healthy start in life, as babies born too early may have more health problems at birth and later in life.
Childbirth Education and Breastfeeding Class
These classes are offered to new parents and family members to help them prepare for a new arrival.
